The Bloomerie

The Bloomerie x That Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature

March 4, 2026

At The Bloomerie, we design living landscapes. Each installation begins with a story shaped by place, emotion, and atmosphere. This project drew inspiration from the ancient forests and waterways of British Columbia and the expressive vision of artist Emily Carr.

Project Details

  • Event: Private Opening Dinner for That Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature
  • Location: Fairmont Hotel Vancouver
  • Date: February 4, 2026

For the exhibitionโ€™s private opening dinner, we created a sculptural tablescape that unfolded like a landscape across the length of the table.

This was not simply a centrepiece.
It was a movement.
It was immersion.

Concept: A River Through the Forest

The design imagined a river flowing through a dense West Coast forest. The floral composition moved continuously from end to end, guiding the eye like water in motion. Guests experienced the table as a quiet journey, following its curves, shadows, and shifting textures. Consider our services for various events.

At the head of the table, the arrangement rose into a vertical botanical form. It cascaded over deep navy fabric, echoing the moment a river spills into the forest floor.

Structured, yet organic.
Dramatic, yet restrained. For elegant and bespoke floral creations for your special day, explore our wedding services.

Materials & Movement

To create depth and dimension, we layered:

  • White calla lilies rising like slender trunks.
  • Indigo and deep blue anthuriums reflect the depth of water.
  • Soft blush hydrangea introduces painterly softness.
  • Blue-toned florals are woven subtly throughout.
  • Ferns and West Coast greenery form the surrounding canopy.
  • Moss grounds the base like damp woodland earth.

Tall navy taper candles flickered within the composition. Their warm glow caught the deep blues and greens, like light shifting across water at dusk. Every element was intentional. Nothing felt static. The design invited stillness and observation.

The Setting

Framed by the skyline views at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, the installation created a quiet contrast between the city beyond the windows and the natural landscape unfolding along the table.

Urban exterior.
Wild interior.

Our interpretation of British Columbiaโ€™s forests and waterways brought indoors for an intimate evening of art, culture, and conversation. We were honoured to translate the spirit of this exhibition into a living botanical experience. Learn more about the exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
